If you are looking for additional resources and ways to teach ideas to students, please read the post I wrote about John Philip Duck, Abe’s Fish: A Boyhood Tale of Abraham Lincoln, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or Artful Reading. Share many models of alphabet books and then have students create their own alphabet book based on a topic of choice. Discuss how the author turned the idea of using the alphabet into a writing piece. And you could really use the alphabet to write a book on pretty much any topic. It’s a simple concept for children to grasp. Lesson idea: I really like the idea of using the alphabet to write a book.

This particular book shares elements of writing through the alphabet. This is a great series of books that includes titles such as T is for Teacher and R is for Rhyme. S is for Story: A Writer’s Alphabet is part of the series of alphabet books by Sleeping Bear Press.
